Treevelling with Team Prameya at Lal Bagh

I’d promised an exciting announcement at the end of my previous post and here goes: I will be conducting a Treevellers’ Katte session at Lal Bagh (one of Bangalore’s precious green spaces that I’ve featured previously on the blog) early on Sunday, June 11th, 2023. This Treevellers’ Katte will be a curtain-raiser for Prameya Health’s Cultural Festival that “celebrates the indomitable spirit of women with cancer,” to be held soon (more details at the Katte).

Founded by Dr. Sandhya Ravi (a surgical oncologist with over four decades of medical experience) and Sudhir Pai (a finance professional and senior healthcare management professional) – Prameya Health provides a range of supportive and preventive healthcare services to women being treated for cancer and people vulnerable to lifestyle diseases. Every year, they celebrate the fighting spirit of women who have survived or are battling cancer through a cultural event that is packed with song, dance and discussion – not to mention beautiful art created by the women and some delicious food.

Even as the trees are stretching and smiling from their slumber on the morning of Sunday, 11th June, about 30 of us will gather under the trees to talk trees and map how they’ve left imprints on our consciousness. There will be nothing academic about this conversation – it will be experiential like all Treevellers’ Katte sessions.

This is a unique Treevellers’ Katte event as it will have a mix of participants from Prameya, some of who are being treated for cancer, some caregivers, doctors, experts in varied healthcare modalities, healers, counsellors, nutritionists and people who love trees in general and Lal Bagh trees in particular.

At the end of this Treevellers’ Katte session more details will be shared about Prameya’s work and this year’s Cultural Festival. If you are someone who loves trees, or offers work in wellness or have supported/ are supporting someone through cancer treatment or are a cancer patient/ survivor or are just compassionately curious about all of this – register for the Treevellers’ Katte event at Lal Bagh by emailing – treevellerskatte@gmail.com

Limited spots available, so please register soon! Looking forward to seeing you there, Treeveller!

I track the imprints that trees leave on people's consciousness through the Treevellers' Katte - a holding space for tree stories and tree memories. I've been caught in the cross-talk between Neem and Peepal trees since when Bangalore was a sluggish city and a tree haven. Though Bangalore is neither of those now, the few trees that exist still have a lot to say - as do the people invested in keeping them standing. The Treevellers' Katte is in service of those trees and people.
